It's a sad sad day. Well technically Thursday and Tuesday were sad days.
Let's start with Tuesday...
Amongst the anticipation and excitement of November 4th, Michael Crichton died at age 66 in an LA area hospital from cancer. Author of many sweet sci-fi books and movies (Jurassic Park, Westworld, Andromeda Strain), creator of excellent, if only in the late '90's, must see TV (ER), and serial monogamist (he had 5 wives!, though less impressively not all at the same time), M.C. was a talented guy. Crichton gave speeches about the existence of UFO's and ET's, which makes me love him, and was an avid global warming and second hand smoke denier, which makes me think he might have been a republican kook. But what really matters is that this guy was super rad and will be missed.
Here's the trailer for Westworld. You should see it. It's like Jurassic Park with robot cowboys instead of Dinosaurs.
Moving on to Thursday...
Eric has informed me that King of the Hill has been CANCELED. So sad. I don't care what anyone says, that show is pure gold. "Then why did it get canceled?" you ask, because the geniuses at FOX think it would be a better idea to show The Family Guy and American Dad along with a new Family Guy spin off called The Cleveland Show. Dumb, dumb, and dumb. Fuck it. Clearly there is no God, and if there is, he, as Eric pointed out, has shitty taste in animation. Rest in peace my sweet sweet King of the Hill. I'm more sad about this than I will be when they cancel The Simpsons.
Here's a little something for your eyes and ears...
*update: Word on the street is tha ABC has it's eye on King of the Hill. Oh yea! Thanks Steve...

Life Imitating Art.
Thanks to Aaron for the hot tip on this news story. Outside of the mention the this man WAS NOT DRUNK, I think the last line really brings it home. This guy could learn a thing or two from Dwight Schrute (who couldnt)
"WARSAW-A Polish driver who was too sure of his GPS road navigation device ended up neck-deep in a lake after ignoring road signs warning of a dead-end. He ignored three road signs warning of a dead-end. His GPS told him to drive straight ahead and he did, Smolen said, adding the driver had not been under the influence of alcohol.
The driver and two passengers escaped unharmed from the submerged vehicle and waited on its roof for police and fire rescue crews.
The driver placed the first call to emergency services while still inside the sinking van."
Amazing!!! Clearly, someone should have been watching "Must See TV"

I hate to get political...
My amazing friend Jillian (who just passed her skills exam!) just emaild me this. It's too good to not share with the (5?) people who read this! Loves it.
"I look at these people and can't quite believe that they exist. Are they professional actors? I wonder. Or are they simply laymen who want a lot of attention? To put them in perspective, I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. "Can I interest you in the chicken?" she asks. "Or would you prefer the platter of shit with bits of broken glass in it? To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked."
- Author David Sedaris, on undecided voters
In conclusion, just in case you havent been getting the automated calls from Michelle Obama and Gary Locke...and calls from the Obama volunteers...and house calls from the Obama volunteers...please don't forget to vote, even though Washington always goes democrat!

MGMT
Well, so far today is going very well. As if the gods of stuff I think is cool were smiling down on me, Eric Warehiem (of Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job!) has directed the new MGMT music video. Super surreal, lots of sequins. Total dream. What's next, 30 Rock meets The Office with special guest star Larry David. Come on.

The Notorious B.I.G of comedy

Yesterday I bought and listened to, what I will assume to be, Mitch Hedberg's last album. It's an all to quick 40 min. number recorded a couple months before his death. I never had the chance to see Mitch live but this CD has got to be the closest thing to it. Recorded at one show, there is lots of audience interaction and trailing off jokes that would have surely been edited out had he more time to work on it. That along with an insert full of personal photos and notes from Mitch's journal makes this a really special (aww) CD for Mitch Hedberg fans. I laughed and felt like crying when it was over...this is the last time i will hear Mitch Hedberg jokes for the first time. Go buy this, or come over and listen to it for free god damnit. This man was a genius.

Rubes
I love machines. I mean obviously right? Who doesn't. We all use them every day, they're super helpful, we are basically at a point in time where like EVERYTHING is a machine. But I digress, the machines that I love are the pointlessly complex ones. You know what I am talking about. The booby (or booty) traps and the gate opener in The Goonies. Pee Wees Breakfast maker.
Take a look at these
This is the first Rube that I ever laid eyes on
Another classic, not sure if it is a true rube goldberg, but it is goldberg-y
Oh! Let's not forget this!

Ok, now this guy, he's posted a couple videos of his machines on You Tube. He is my hero.
